I attended the University of Oklahoma, where I earned my BS in Neuroscience and a BA in Music Composition. I worked for a large company for a couple of years, and then made the decision to "come home" and take on private tutoring. This way, I was able to better utilize my creativity and intellect through my work. For the past eight years, I have been providing lessons in music and academic subjects on a one-on-one basis. I've mentored at a children's program for college bound students, presented exhibits about the brain through the Society of Neuroscience, and assisted as a coach for a high school mock trial team. When tutoring, I know how to motivate my students, which is critical to their success. First, I help them discover the context of the subject as it relates to their lives and their world, and specifically to particular interests they have. When a student knows why they are studying a subject, they are more motivated. I also take the time to get to know my students individually. I always find an overlap between the subject we're studying and their goals. I tutor in a wide variety of subjects, including various math, science, and English topics, and test prep for standardized tests like the PSAT, SAT, and GRE.
