Private tutor in Virginia Beach, VA
Education
Virginia Commonwealth University. Bachelor of Arts in Spanish graduating with a 3.4 GPA in 2010. Bilingual in Spanish and English
Experience
After spending 2+ years living in Central America (spent extensive time in Nicaragua, Honduras) doing volunteer work from 2006-2008, I decided to formalize my listening/speaking/writing skills in Spanish by securing a Bachelor's degree in Spanish. Much of my formal Spanish education involved a newly-pioneered translation / interpretation program at VCU. The program included extensive practical experience in both translating written testimony (for court cases and medical purposes), literature and pop-culture translation, as well as interpretation of spoken word from both English to Spanish or Spanish to English (as in a courtroom or hospital setting). As a requirement for graduating, I was required to provide 40+ hours of tutoring for lower-mid-upper level Universtity Spanish students at VCU. In my first job upon graduation, I was the assistant coordinator of Spanish programs at the Archdiocese of New York (which encompassed Manhattan, the Bronx, and multiple counties in upstate New York). Currently, I am actively (10-20 hours a week) with a missionary organization that facilitates 7+ trips to Honduras, each year.

Hobbies
As you can see from my experience, I am very comfortable with the more practical and real-world approach to learing and speaking spanish. I'm very patient when it comes to Spanish (when I was learning it, I looked like I fool for the first few months as I had no formal spanish education prior!) and I have the advantage of knowing how the average person learns a language. Basically, Spanish is both part of my expertise and professional education, but is also something I live in my daily life and use in my passions and hobbies.
