Experience
I have a bachelor's in Hispanic Studies from the College of William and Mary and my Spanish K-12 teaching certification from the Commonwealth of Virginia. I am a self-professed language nerd. I have studied five languages, three of them at a college level. In some ways, being a teacher is the family business. Mom and Dad were are both educators, and playing "school" was a wonderful childhood pastime. Today, I have taught Spanish at all levels for grades K - 12. My method of employing a mnemonic device that some students find corny gets results. The same students who scoff at my approach are often the first ones to darken my door the next year when they come to thank me for helping them learn and instilling confidence in them for whatever content is next. My approach is to first be happy and joyful. If you teach from that attitude, it will spill over into your students. There is excitement in discovering a student's best style of learning. It is that connection, that knowledge, that is the basis of a successful relationship. I have also found that an enthusiastic, positive, and patient approach is best, and I've used that in my tutoring students across of myriad of backgrounds in Spanish and ESL.When I am not teaching or tutoring I like run, travel, and spend time with my family.
