Experience
I earned my bachelor's degree in Sociology at the University of Virginia. Following undergrad, I began working in finance. During my nine years in that field, I earned my master's degree in Finance and another master's in Health Promotion and Education. I also plan on soon working toward my doctorate in Health Behavior. Dating back to high school, I have served as a Math tutor for students of all ages. I am comfortable teaching everything from junior high Math up through Algebra 2. I think that many students have bad experiences with Math when they are very young, as it can appear daunting at first. As such, I like to tutor by taking students back to the basics of the topic they are covering so I can instill confidence in the subject matter as we build on the material. I think that as long as the student is nurtured in a positive and patient environment anybody can learn Math, even if they have struggled with it before. The feeling of helping a student achieve his or her academic goals is very rewarding to me. When I'm not in the classroom, I like to spend my time singing, dancing, reading, traveling, volunteering, and watching movies.
