Experience
I'm a retired teacher based in Virginia Beach, Virginia. I received my bachelor's in history from Seton Hill University, and my masters in American studies from Purdue University. After working for 30 years as a teacher, I'm finding that in my retirement I dearly miss teaching my students and helping them along in their academic journey. This has led me to begin tutoring. I look forward to working with a whole new set of students in a different educational environment. I believe that education is a journey, not a specific destination like one test or paper. This is a philosophy that I used in my classroom and one that I'll continue to use as a tutor. One of the things I loved about being a teacher is that there was always a new set of problems "” both academic and personal "” that my students and I were presented with each year. I've learned how to quickly adapt to new circumstances, and to teach each student as his or her own person. This has allowed me to quickly problem solve these issues in a way that I think will be beneficial for me as a tutor. Students have enriched my life as I hope I've enriched theirs. I hope that I can use the skills I've developed throughout my career to help you reach your educational goals.

Hobbies
I enjoy kinesthetic type art; I have made wall hangings, embroider, sew, and I'm now into Zentangle. I enjoy reading - both fiction and nonfiction. I read Harper Lee's Go Set a Watchman and was disappointed as I used to teach To Kill a MockingIbird. I have just finished The Boys in the Boat and Rival Queens. I also love reading the news from several newspapers daily.
